Welcome
From the Kirkland Lake Arts Club we extend a big welcome to you. We are a friendly group of people who all enjoy and appreciate the wide world of art. All of our members are art enthusiasts from an observer stand point or actively pursue their mediums. Some are full time artists and others simply enjoy the process of creating.
We are a group of all ages. Some have pursued an art career by having works accepted into various juried exhibitions, to achieving awards, earning their signature letters which in turn have made a name for themselves.
Others have held their own exhibitions, workshops and shared their knowledge with those interested in improving their artistic endeavors.
The purpose of this page is to inform you about the club workings and benefits of becoming a member. Whether you pursue acrylics, oils, pastels, draw in charcoal, colored pencils, do sculptures or wood carvings, collages, fiber art, and even photography, artists working in any medium are welcome.
Mission Statement
The “KLAC’s” purpose is to foster original art in the North and encourage those who are interested in expressing themselves through various media.
In 2015 a Student Bursary was initiated for each year in the amount of one hundred dollar ($100.00) for a graduating student who has excelled and/or is planning to pursue studies in the Visual Fine Arts Program.
Benefits
One of the greatest benefits is to meet others who have the same interest in the art world, share their enthusiasm, and camaraderie. Club meetings are held once per month and there are two socials per year. You will be exposed to new ideas and methods via demonstrations held at the end of the meetings. Workshops and Exhibitions specifically outlined later will all be available to you; as well as, an opportunity to sell your pieces at special events. Belonging to an art club is the one of the quickest ways to propel your artistic creativity to a higher level.
Brief History & NOAA
The Kirkland Lake Arts Club began in 1944 and was one of the founding clubs of the Northern Ontario Art Association. The NOAA is currently comprised of 15 clubs throughout Northern Ontario. Most clubs have a membership fee (KLAC fee is $25.00) plus the NOAA fee ($10.00). This combined fee will allow the member to enter into local exhibitions and other local events, as well as the Annual Juried NOAA exhibition which travels to the 15 clubs throughout the year. See the complete list of NOAA events under “Club Events”.
